Dāl (دال) is the eighth letter of the Arabic alphabet . It emerged from the Phoenician Daleth and is thus related to the Latin D , the Greek Delta and the Hebrew Daleth . The numerical value 4 is assigned to it.

Sound value and transcription

The Dal corresponds to the German D in "Dora". It is therefore reproduced with a “d” in the DMG inscription.

The Dal is a sun letter , i. i.e., a preceding al- (definite article) is assimilated.
