Chāʾ ( Arabic خاء, DMG Ḫāʾ ) is the seventh letter of the Arabic and (as Che ) the ninth letter of the Persian alphabet . The numerical value 600 is assigned to it.

Emergence

Unlike most other Arabic letters, the Cha did not emerge directly from a Phoenician letter. In the early days of the Arabic language, the diacritical points were still missing, cha was written exactly like the (pharyngeal) Ḥa . A point was later added to the cha to distinguish the two letters.

Sound value and transcription

The cha corresponds to the ch in "roof" (as opposed to the ch in "light"). In the DMG inscription, Cha is reproduced as “h” with a breve underneath ( ). In non-academic transcription, ch (German) and kh (English, French) are used. In domain names , internet forums and when using chat programs , the number “ 5 ” often represents cha.
