Gaf , Persian گاف, DMG gāf , is a letter in the Persian alphabet that does not belong to the Arabic alphabet . It was added by the Persians to the spelling of the "G" sound, which is missing in standard Arabic . In the same function, the Gaf also belonged to the Ottoman-Turkish alphabet used in Turkish until 1928 (see Ottoman language ). The Gaf is written like a Persian Kaf , but with a line above it. The Gaf has no numerical value.
In the Pashtun script , the Gaf is usually not written in the Persian variant, but as Persian Kaf with a ring (ګ). The Gaf of the Malay Jawi script corresponds to an Arabic Kaf with a dot above (ڬ).
