The Alif maqsūra ( Arabic الألف المقصورة al-alif al-maqṣūra  'reduced alif') is an additional character of the Arabic script , which is not part of the Arabic alphabet . It stands for a final [ ]. It is according to the DMG -Umschrift with a velvet Makron reproduced (A) .

It will be like that ya ي written, but without dots (ى), only used at the end of the word (in the final part ) and has no numerical value.

Before endings (suffixes) the ى mostly for ا( Alif ) - Example: ramā  /رمى / 'He threw', but with a personal pronoun suffix ramāhu  /رماه / 'He threw it' - in the Koran , however, the spelling with Alif maqsura is retained and its sound value is indicated with a small Alif on top of the letter in front of it (رمٰيه).
