Kāf كافis the 22nd letter of the Arabic alphabet . It emerged from the Phoenician kapha and is related to the Latin K , the Greek kappa and the Hebrew kaph . The numerical value 20 is assigned to it.

Sound value and transcription

The Kaf corresponds to the German K in "Kaufmann". It is therefore reproduced with a "k" in the DMG inscription.

In Persian , the Kaf is written differently in Arabic (ک). To the non occurring in Scripture Arab write "g" sound, was in the Persian alphabet also the letter Gaf (گ) developed from the kaf. In the Pashtun alphabet , this gaf has its own form (ګ).

In Sindhi the Persian form of Kaf, called Khe , stands for an aspirated "k" (IPA: [ ]), the non-aspirated "k" becomes with the graphic modificationڪ written.
