(1166) Sakuntala is an asteroid of the main belt , which on 27. June 1930 by Soviet astronomer P. Parkhomenko at the Crimean Astrophysical Observatory in simeiz was discovered.

The name of the asteroid is derived from the main character from the Sanskrit drama Abhijnanashakuntala by Kalidasa .
