(1280) Baillauda is an asteroid of the main belt , which on 18th August 1933 by the Belgian astronomer Eugène Joseph Delporte in Ukkel was discovered.
The asteroid is named after the French astronomer Jules Baillaud , son of the astronomer Benjamin Baillaud . This applies contrary to the original intention of the discoverer, who probably meant the father, but after many years of attribution to the son, the Committee on Small Body Nomenclature (CSBN) of the International Astronomical Union (IAU) left it and the asteroid (11764) Benbaillaud instead dedicated to the father Benjamin Baillaud .
