(1462) Zamenhof is an asteroid of the main belt , which on 6 February 1938 by the Finnish astronomer Yrjö Väisälä at Turku was discovered.
The asteroid is named after the physician and linguist Ludwik Lejzer Zamenhof , the inventor of the Esperanto language . The asteroid (1421) Esperanto was named after this two years earlier .
