(16953) Besicovitch is an asteroid of the main belt , which on 27 May 1998 by the American Italo- astronomer Paul G. Comba at Prescott Observatory was discovered.

The celestial body was named after the mathematician Abram Samoilowitsch Besikowitsch (1891–1970), who was of Russian descent and who mainly worked on expanding the theory of fractals . In addition, he dealt with real analysis, measure theory and the theory of near-periodic functions, often treading unusual paths.
