(18024) Dobson is an asteroid of the main belt , which on 20 May 1999 by the American US Amateur astronomers James M. Roe on Oaxaca Observatory ( IAU code 732) in Oaxaca City in Mexico was discovered.

The asteroid was named on November 1, 2001 after the American amateur astronomer John Dobson (1915-2014), who had a significant influence on the spread of inexpensive amateur telescopes with the concept of the so-called Dobsonian telescope .
