(189) Phthia is an asteroid of the main asteroid belt that was discovered on September 9, 1878 by Christian Heinrich Friedrich Peters . The celestial body was named after Phthia , daughter of Phoroneus and mother of Achaios from Greek mythology .

Phthia moves at a distance of 2.4 ( perihelion ) to 3.5 ( aphelion ) astronomical units in 3.836 years around the sun . The orbit is inclined 5.2 ° to the ecliptic , the orbital eccentricity is 0.04. Phthia has a diameter of 38 kilometers. It has a light, silicate-containing surface with an albedo of 0.23.
