(22442) Blaha is an asteroid of the main belt that was discovered on October 14, 1996 by the Czech astronomers Jana Tichá and Miloš Tichý at the Kleť Observatory ( IAU code 046) near Český Krumlov in South Bohemia .
The asteroid was named after the American astronaut John Elmer Blaha (* 1942), who completed a total of five space flights, including a four-month stay on the MIR space station . A planned sixth mission was canceled after the Challenger disaster .
