(24649) Balaklava is an asteroid of the main belt that was discovered on September 19, 1985 by the Russian astronomers Nikolai Stepanowitsch Tschernych and Lyudmila Ivanovna Tschernych at the branch of the Crimean Observatory ( IAU code 095) in Nautschnyj .
The asteroid is named after the Ukrainian port city of Balaklava in the Crimea , which is now a district of Sevastopol .
