(25142) Hopf is an asteroid of the main belt , which on 26 September 1998 by the American Italo- astronomer Paul G. Comba at Prescott Observatory ( IAU code 684) in Arizona , was discovered.

The asteroid was named after the German-Swiss mathematician Heinz Hopf (1894–1971), who was a pioneer of algebraic topology and from 1931 was a professor at the ETH Zurich .
