(2587) Gardner is an asteroid of the main belt , which on 17 July 1980 by the US American astronomer Edward LG Bowell at the Anderson Mesa Station ( IAU code 688) of the Lowell Observatory in Coconino County was discovered.
The asteroid was named after the American science journalist Martin Gardner .
