(2606) Odessa is an asteroid of the main belt , which was discovered on April 1, 1976 by the Soviet astronomer Nikolai Stepanowitsch Tschernych at the Crimean Observatory in Nautschnyj .

The asteroid is named after the Ukrainian port city of Odessa on the Black Sea .
