(2638) Gadolin is an asteroid of the main belt , which on 19 September 1939 by the Finnish astronomer Yrjö Väisälä at Turku was discovered.

The name of the asteroid is reminiscent of the Finnish astronomer Jacob Gadolin and the chemist Johan Gadolin .
