(26639) Murgaš is an asteroid of the main belt that was discovered on May 5, 2000 by the Slovak astronomer Peter Kušnirák at the Ondřejov observatory ( IAU code 557) in the Czech Republic .

The asteroid was named after the Slovak painter , inventor and pioneer of radio telegraphy Jozef Murgaš (1864–1929), whose greatest success was the first successful wireless transmission of voice in 1905.
