(2822) Sacajawea is an asteroid of the main belt , which on 14 March 1980 by the US American astronomer Edward LG Bowell at the Anderson Mesa Station ( IAU code 688) of the Lowell Observatory in Coconino County was discovered.

The asteroid was after the Shoshone - Indian Sacajawea named (1788-1812) that the Lewis and Clark Expedition as interpreter and scout provided valuable services.
