(29427) Oswaldthomas is an asteroid of the main belt that was discovered on March 7, 1997 by the Austrian amateur astronomer Erich Meyer at the Davidschlag observatory ( IAU code 540) near Linz in Austria .
The asteroid was named on January 7, 2004 after the astronomer Oswald Thomas (1882–1963), the founder of the Austrian Astronomical Society and the Vienna Planetarium .
