(3023) Heard is an asteroid of the main belt , the May 5, 1981 by US astronomer Edward LG Bowell at the Anderson Mesa Station of the Lowell Observatory in Coconino County was discovered.
The asteroid was named after the Canadian astronomer John Frederick Heard (1907-1976), a professor of astronomy at the University of Toronto and fourth director of the David Dunlap Observatory .
