(3266) Bernardus is an asteroid of the main belt , which on 11 August 1978 by Hans-Emil Schuster at the La Silla Observatory in Chile was discovered.
It is named after Andres Bernardus Muller, astronomer at the Leiden Observatory and head of the Site-Testing Campaigns for the European Southern Observatory (ESO) in South Africa and Chile . From 1964 to 1969 he was superintendent at the La Silla Observatory, while it was being built by ESO. Muller contributed to major improvements at ESO, including the 1-meter Schmidt telescope at the La Silla Observatory, which was used to discover this minor planet .
