(32853) Döbereiner is an asteroid of the main belt that was discovered on September 21, 1992 by the German astronomers Freimut Börngen and Lutz D. Schmadel at the Thuringian state observatory in Tautenburg ( IAU code 033) in Thuringia .

The asteroid was named after the German chemist Johann Wolfgang Döbereiner named (1780-1849), the catalytic discovered effect of platinum metals and after him Döbereiner lighter named platinum lighter invented.
