(36061) Haldane is an asteroid of the main outer belt discovered on September 11, 1999 by the Italian astronomer Matteo Santangelo at the Osservatorio Astronomico di Monte Agliale ( IAU code 159) in Borgo a Mozzano .
The celestial body was named on April 13, 2006 after the British theoretical biologist and geneticist J. BS Haldane (1892–1964), who was one of the founders of population genetics in the 1920s .
