The Coatinc Company

history

For more than 500 years, The Coatinc Company, with its headquarters and roots in Siegerland, has grown from a hammer mill, founded by the guild master of the steel forge, Heylmann Dresseler, through iron and steel production and processing to a broad-based service provider in the field of metal surface finishing , with a focus on hot-dip galvanizing. The group of companies has been family-owned for 17 generations, making it the oldest family company in Germany. Since it was founded in 1502, the family has always been active in the mining and iron and steel industries and is still active today. This is also due to the fact that the Siegerland is one of the oldest and most important European mining regions and iron was already being produced and processed here by the Celts six centuries before our era. This development continued from the end of the Middle Ages to the beginning of industrialization. The center of this region was Siegen with the court of the Nassau-Siegen princes, and this is where the Dresler family lived until the middle of the 19th century.

With the arrival of the railroad and the mining of coal in the Ruhr area in the middle of the 19th century, the Dresler family began to diversify and they played a key role in the founding of nationally important companies, including the former Stahlwerke Südwestfalen, now Edelstahlwerke and SAG in Geisweid as the most important. During this time the family moved from Siegen to Kreuztal, because Johann Heinrich Dresler III took over the Kreuzthaler rolling mill and converted it into a wire mill. After that, his two sons each lived in a stately home opposite the company: Heinrich Adolf the White Villa and Wilhelm the Yellow Villa. Today, both houses form the center of "Dreslers Park".

Heinrich Adolf Dresler , the 13th in the line-up, had with his wife Clementine, nee. Small, eleven children. She was a daughter of the founder of the iron foundry and machine factory in Klein zu Dahlbruch, later Siemag Dahlbruch, today SMS. Her first-born child was Luise, who married the evangelical pastor and superintendent Alfred Niederstein. Luise's brother Hans ran the Siegener Aktiengesellschaft until 1945, after which he was replaced by Werner Niederstein, the son of Alfred and Luise Niederstein, who took over the company's management board. The SAG formed the basis of The Coatinc Company today. Its managing partner, Paul Niederstein, is the 17th generation of the direct descendants of the ancestor of the Dreslers.

Products and processes

In addition to normal, high-temperature and centrifugal galvanizing, powder and wet coatings (both also in the duplex process), anodising for aluminum and passivation are offered. A unique selling point is the high-temperature galvanizing process, which is bundled in the company Coatinc PreGa GmbH & Co. KG. PreGa stands for Precision Galvanizing - a process that was developed by the company itself and brought to market maturity.

A total of over 450,000 tons of steel and several million square meters of steel and metal are refined each year for the five business areas of steel construction, steel trading, series products, locksmith customers and automotive. The company is also active in the field of packaging and logistics.
