(3859) Börngen is an asteroid of the main belt , which on 4 March 1987 by the American astronomer Edward LG Bowell at the Anderson Mesa Station ( IAU code 688) of the Lowell Observatory in Coconino County was discovered.

The asteroid was named after the German astronomer and asteroid discoverer Freimut Börngen , who identified more than 500 asteroids at the Tautenburg State Observatory in Thuringia .
