(38671) Verdaguer is an asteroid of the main belt discovered on August 7, 2000 by the Catalan amateur astronomer Jaume Nomen at the Ametlla de Mar observatory ( IAU code 946) in the Catalan province of Tarragona . The asteroid was first sighted in October 1977 at the La Silla Observatory of the European Southern Observatory in Chile under the provisional name 1977 TV.
The asteroid belongs to the Nysa group, a group of asteroids named after (44) Nysa, which is also known as the Hertha family (after (135) Hertha).
(38671) Verdaguer was named on November 20, 2002 after the Catalan poet Jacint Verdaguer (1845-1902), who is considered the most important protagonist of the movement to revive the Catalan language and culture in the 19th century, the Renaixença .
