(4004) List'ev is a main belt asteroid discovered on September 16, 1971 at the Crimean Observatory .

The asteroid was named after Wladislaw Nikolajewitsch Listjew (1957-1995), a Russian television journalist who was the victim of contract killers . The name was suggested by the Institute of Theoretical Astronomy .
