(4877) Humboldt is an asteroid of the main belt that was discovered on September 25, 1973 by the Dutch research team Cornelis Johannes van Houten , Ingrid van Houten-Groeneveld and Tom Gehrels as part of the Palomar-Leiden Survey .
The asteroid was named after Alexander von Humboldt (1769-1859).
