(4983) Schroeteria is an asteroid of the main belt that was discovered on September 11, 1977 by the Russian astronomer Nikolai Stepanowitsch Tschernych at the Crimean Observatory in Nautschnyj ( IAU code 095).

The asteroid was named after the lawyer and astronomer Johann Hieronymus Schroeter (1745-1816), who founded the Lilienthal observatory in 1782 and made it one of the world's leading observatories at the beginning of the 19th century.
