(5473) Yamanashi is an asteroid of the main belt , which on 5 November 1988 by the Japanese astronomer Yoshio Kushida and Osamu Muramatsu on Yatsugatake South Base Observatory ( IAU code was discovered 896).

The asteroid was named after Yamanashi Prefecture on Honshu Island . The Yatsugatake South Base Observatory is located there. At the same time, the prefecture serves as a starting point for tours on Mount Fuji , which is partly on its territory.
