(55733) Lepsius is an asteroid of the main belt , which was discovered on November 27, 1986 by the German astronomer Freimut Börngen at the Thuringian State Observatory Tautenburg .

It was named in honor of the German Egyptologist , linguist and librarian Karl Richard Lepsius , the planner of the Egyptian Museum in Berlin and founder of the field of Egyptology in German-speaking countries.
