(6542) Jacquescousteau is an asteroid of the Main Belt . It was discovered on February 15, 1985 by the Czech astronomer Antonín Mrkos at the Kleť Observatory ( IAU code 046) near Český Krumlov .

The asteroid was named after the French marine researcher and documentary filmmaker Jacques-Yves Cousteau (1910–1997), who with his research vessel Calypso became a synonym for marine research.
