(66) Maja is an asteroid of the main belt , which on April 9, 1861 by the American astronomer Horace Parnell Tuttle was discovered.
It was named after Maja , a daughter of Atlas and Pleione , mother of Hermes .
Maja has a dark, carbonaceous surface.
