(7062) Meslier is an asteroid of the main belt , the August 6, 1991 by the Belgian astronomer Eric Walter Elst at the La Silla Observatory ( observatory code 809) of the European Southern Observatory in Chile was discovered.
The asteroid is named after the French Catholic priest Jean Meslier (1664–1729), who wrote a radical criticism of the church and religion from a consistently materialistic , atheistic point of view during the early Enlightenment .
