(7769) Okuni is an asteroid of the main belt , which on 4 November 1991 by Japanese astronomers Satoru Ōtomo at the observatory in Kiyosato ( IAU code was discovered 894). The asteroid had already been sighted: on October 23, 1968 under the provisional designation 1968 UY 1 , on December 2, 1972 (1972 XH) and December 18, 1976 (1976 YO 5 ), and on December 10, 1980 (1980 XW 2 ) at the Crimean Observatory in Nautschnyj .
The asteroid belongs to the Vesta family , a large group of asteroids named after (4) Vesta , the second largest asteroid and third largest celestial body in the main belt. The timeless (non- osculating ) orbital elements of (7769) Okuni are almost identical to those of three smaller ones, assuming the absolute magnitude of 16.5, 16.9 and 16.8 compared to 13.1, asteroids: (184011) Andypuckett , (209209) Ericmarsh and (342107) 2008 SF 70 .
(7769) Okuni was named on January 9, 2001 after the Japanese astronomer Tomimaru Ōkuni (* 1931).
