(7940) Erich Meyer is an asteroid of the main belt , which on March 13 in 1991 at Oak Ridge Observatory ( IAU code 801) in Cambridge US state in Massachusetts was discovered.
The asteroid was named on June 10, 1998 after the Austrian amateur astronomer Erich Meyer (* 1951) on the occasion of his 20th anniversary as an astrometer .
