(8106) Carpino is an asteroid of the main belt , which was discovered on December 23, 1994 by the Italian astronomers Marco Cavagna and Piero Sicoli at the Osservatorio Astronomico Sormano ( IAU code 587).

The asteroid was named on February 11, 1998 after Mario Carpino (* 1957), an astronomer at the Osservatorio Astronomico di Brera . He studied the dynamics of the planetary system in the LONGSTOP and SPACEGUARD projects and became its first secretary in 1996 when the Spaceguard Foundation was founded in Rome .
