(850) Altona is an asteroid of the main belt that was discovered on March 27, 1916 by the Russian astronomer Sergej Ivanovich Beljavski at the Crimean Observatory in Simejis .

The asteroid is named after the Hamburg district and location of the observatory, where Heinrich Christian Schumacher began publishing the Astronomical News in 1821 .
