.ch (pronounced: point CH ) was a free Swiss commuter newspaper . The newspaper in tabloid format appeared from Monday to Friday in the mornings and thus competed with the free newspapers 20 Minuten and News, which also appear in the morning . The editor-in-chief was Rolf Leeb. .ch was published from September 19, 2007 to May 4, 2009 in the cities and agglomerations of Basel , Bern , Lucerne , St. Gallen and Zurich . The first edition was 435,000 copies and had 44 pages (14 of which were advertising).

distribution

In contrast to the existing free newspapers in Switzerland, .ch was not originally intended to be distributed primarily via distribution boxes at train stations, but by home delivery, as is the case with conventional subscribed daily newspapers. The newspaper was placed on specially made stands in the entrance area of the serviced houses. The attempt was made to reach the readership 20 Minuten earlier than the competing newspaper, which is primarily to be found at train stations. That was the specialty of .ch , which caused a stir in the Swiss media market and led Tamedia to increase the circulation of 20 minutes during the market launch of .ch and another free newspaper, News , to force .ch out of the market brought.

Critics doubted home delivery worked. They referred to the possible resistance of homeowners and the danger that .ch as waste paper pollutes the house entrances. Various house owners destroyed the stands that had been deposited on their property without authorization. .ch made after the delivery of the newspaper in the mailboxes around, but also attracted the resentment so many homeowners in coming. At the end of October 2008, .ch stopped delivering home deliveries and appeared in a new, more colorful look. From then on, the newspaper, like the competing products, was mainly distributed at train stations and other frequently frequented locations.

At the beginning, however, I also had problems with the stands set up on public property. In Winterthur, the trade police cleared away stands that were on public property without a permit.

In May 2009 the newspaper gave up the fight against 20 Minuten and News ; the last issue appeared on May 4, 2009.

publishing company

.ch was initially published by the PR agency “Media Punkt AG” (formerly “Ziecour Hazu AG”) by Sacha Wigdorovits , who was already involved in setting up 20 Minuten . According to dieMedien.at, the German publisher Georg-Dieter von Holtzbrinck (20.5%), the media entrepreneur Michael Grabner (long-time member of the board and still a consultant / renovator at Holtzbrinck, oe24.at , Raiffeisen - took part in their share capital, which was increased to CHF 10 million . Media officer, 2.5%), the Austrian publishing family Moser ( Moser Holding , Tiroler Tageszeitung , Life Radio , 15.5%) and Eugen Russ (“Vorarlberger Medienhaus”, today: “ russmedia ”, 15.5%) and the Swiss Andreas Rihs (founder of Phonak , 10%), Ancillo Canepa (President of FC Zurich, 10%) and Sacha Widgorovits (10%) until the home delivery failed in October 2008. In October 2008 the share capital was increased to CHF 18 million. In February 2009 the company was dissolved and went bankrupt. At that time, Ernst Buob was President of the Board of Directors, other members included the investors Rihs, Russ and Grabner, the editor-in-chief Rolf Leeb, the managing director and former publishing director of the SonntagsZeitung Caroline Thoma and Josef Follpracht.

In order to continue .ch , the same investors increased the company of the Chairman of the Board of Directors Buob, “Ronim AG”, to CHF 5 million and renamed it “Punkt ch AG”. Members of the board of directors were the same as in Media Punkt AG, the president was Ernst Buob. This company also went bankrupt when .ch failed and was liquidated on June 18, 2009.

At the end of August 2009, Moneycab acquired all trademark rights in order to create a new online media offering under the brand .ch or i.punkt.ch , which was to be strongly geared towards the changed media usage through the Internet. However, the project was not implemented.
