Sacha Wigdorovits

Sacha Wigdorovits (* 1952 ) is a Swiss journalist and entrepreneur .

Life

Wigdorovits graduated from the University of Zurich with a phil. I study from. He then worked as a journalist, including for the Tages-Anzeiger Zurich, then for the SonntagsZeitung - first as a chief reporter and then as a US correspondent in New York. After his return, he initially worked as deputy editor-in-chief at the Luzerner Neusten Nachrichten (LNN) and developed various newspaper projects for Ringier, before moving to Blick in 1995, first as head of sports and then as editor-in-chief , in order to reposition it and, after years of dwindling readers, a turnaround to accomplish. He stayed there until 1997. On behalf of Ringier , he then returned to the United States to monitor developments in the Internet sector and to complete an Advanced Management Program (AMP) at Harvard Business School . After returning to Switzerland, he founded the communications agency Contract Media in August 1998. His first mandates included crisis communication in connection with the crash of Swissair flight SR111 near Halifax. A little later, the Scandinavian media company Schibsted entrusted him with the market clarification and then the project management for the establishment of the free newspaper 20 Minuten , which is today the daily newspaper with the highest circulation in Switzerland. He launched this in December 1999 and was a member of the board of directors and investor until it was sold to the media company Tamedia in 2003.

From September 2007 to October 2008, Sacha Wigdorovits was the publisher of the free newspaper .ch , which had to be discontinued in May 2009. Wigdorovits hit the headlines in November 2009 when he became an advisor to nightclub owner and millionaire son Carl Hirschmann. Wigdorovits hit the headlines again at the end of August 2014 in the Geri Müller case , when Wigdorovits was described and criticized by various media as the “mastermind” of a campaign against the mayor of Baden AG . In 2019, he was acquitted of the allegation of attempted coercion and aiding and abetting coercion and was found guilty of keeping and disclosing unauthorized conversations. He was sentenced to a conditional fine of 40 daily rates of 560 francs (= 22,400 francs).

Others

Wigdorovits made a name for himself as a bridge player during his student days . He was Swiss champion and member of the Swiss national team, for which he played at European championships and Olympics as well as other international competitions.
