1,2-Dibromotetrafluoroethane is a chemical compound from the group of aliphatic, saturated halogenated hydrocarbons . It exists as a colorless, very volatile liquid.
use
1,2-Dibromotetrafluoroethane has been used as a fire fighting agent. It is classified as depleting the ozone layer ( ozone depletion potential of 6) and its use in Germany is prohibited according to the CFC-Halon Prohibition Ordinance .
On November 8, 2008, a serious accident occurred on the Russian submarine K-152 when the fire extinguishing system triggered as a result of a false alarm and released a freon , killing 20 people. Depending on the source, Freon-112 or dibromotetrafluoroethane (Freon 114B2) is specified as Freon.
