The rescue group is the basic tactical unit of the Federal Agency for Technical Relief (THW) . She can provide a variety of help and support the specialist groups with personnel and machines. However, it does not specialize in individual activities. The rescue groups are now divided into rescue group 1 ( GKW 1 ) and rescue group 2 ( MzKW ). For the former rescue group in rescue trains, see Rescue Service .

1st rescue group

Rescue group 1 (B 1) is the most universal group in the TZ ( Technical Train ). The staff and equipment are geared towards coping with the widest possible range of tasks. As a rule, this group will also be deployed first (also as a THW rapid deployment group ). It is supplemented and supported by rescue group 2 or by specialist groups or they support them. With the conversion of the 2nd rescue group into specialist group N, this group will in future only be managed as a rescue group.

tasks

GKW 1 of the series from 2008

Rescue group 1 rescues people and animals and hides property from dangerous situations. It carries out security work in damaged areas, carries out light clearing work and prepares paths and crossings. She also provides technical and personnel support to the THW specialist groups.

Tasks of rescue group 1 in detail:

  • explores damage situations
  • penetrates to damaged areas by overcoming or clearing obstacles
  • locates buried and trapped people
  • rescues buried and trapped people and provides " first aid "
  • transports injured people out of danger areas
  • performs technical securing work and, if necessary, lays down structural parts that are in danger of collapsing
  • saves animals and harbors material assets and transports them out of danger areas
  • conceals corpses and carcasses
  • fights special dangers as part of rescue / recovery measures (e.g. water, incipient fires, etc.)
  • illuminates damaged areas
  • builds makeshift footbridges and small bridges
  • saves people and animals and hides property from water hazards
  • performs work on bank reinforcements, dam and dyke protection
  • clears damaged areas to remove persistent disruptions
  • secures objects with support systems

At least twice per regional association, the equipment of rescue group 1 is supplemented by a universal support and securing component made of wooden components - support system wood (ASH). Once per local association (OV), the rescue groups are provided with a deployment scaffolding system (EGS) for a wide range of uses for rescue, rescue and safety work.

Function and helper overview

Starch : 0/2/7/ 9 , with ASH: 0/2/10/ 12

  • 1 × group leader (GrFü)
  • 1 × squad leader (TrFü) with additional function of respiratory equipment carrier (AGT) / CBRN helper (CBRN-He)
  • 7 × specialist helpers
  • with ASH: 10 × specialist helpers

In rescue group 1, the following additional functions are occupied by the specialist helpers (double additional functions required, e.g. CE driver and radio operator):

  • 5 × respiratory equipment wearer (AGT) / CBRN helper (CBRN-He)
  • 2 × CE drivers / radio operator (SprFu)
  • 1 × first aid worker (SanHe)
  • 1 × welder / flame cutter (SBr)
  • 2 × operator chainsaws (BedMotSä)
  • with ASH: 2 × forklift drivers (StaplerKf)

Four of the above Helpers should have one of the following professional qualifications:

  • Timber construction craftsmen (e.g. carpenter, builder, roofer, etc.)
  • Metalworkers (e.g. locksmiths, mechanics, etc.)
  • Construction workers (e.g. bricklayers, concrete workers, civil engineers, etc.)

2nd rescue group

MzKW of the series from 2008

Rescue group 2 (B 2) is part of the technical train at THW . In addition to basic equipment that is largely similar to that of the B1, it is equipped with additional, heavier components. In particular, in contrast to the autonomous, gasoline-powered tools of the B1, it uses electrical and hydraulic tools. With these tools, B 2 can also provide help where exhaust gases or noise from combustion-driven tools would hinder the use or endanger injured persons.

The B 2 is largely deployed in a stationary manner at the focus of operations. The energy supply is provided by a 50 kVA diesel generator on a trailer. In the multi-purpose vehicle (MzKW), the equipment is loaded on roll containers. These are removed using a 1.5 t tail lift. A MzKW offers an important transport component in the THW local associations when the roll containers are unloaded. Since not all THW local branches are equipped with a MzKW, some units still use equipment vehicles 2 . With the implementation of the new framework concept, these groups will be transferred to the newly created specialist group N (emergency supply and emergency repair).

tasks

The general description of tasks corresponds to that of rescue group 1.

Additional tasks of rescue group 2 in detail:

  • Rescue Group 2 carries out heavy rescue work with high-performance equipment
  • technically supports other rescue and specialist groups
  • supplies other rescue and specialist groups with additional electrical energy

  • 1 × group leader (GrFü)
  • 1 × squad leader (TrFü) with additional function of respiratory equipment carrier (AGT) / CBRN helper (CBRN-He)
  • 7 × specialist helpers

In the 2nd rescue group, the specialist assistants fill the following additional functions (double additional functions required, e.g. CE driver and radio operator):

  • 3 × breathing apparatus wearers (AGT) / CBRN helper (CBRN-He)
  • 2 × CE drivers / radio operator (SprFu)
  • 1 × first aid worker (SanHe)

  • 1 × machinist power generator (MaschSEA)

Rescue group 2, type B

After experience in relation to salvage from modern skeleton construction methods , a specially equipped rescue group 2, type B, was set up in each of the 66 management areas of the THW. It is also equipped with the following equipment:

The more extensive equipment results in a correspondingly adapted strength of 0/3/9/12 . In addition to the personnel of rescue group 2, type A, B 2, type B has the following personnel:

  • 1 × squad leader (TrFü) with additional function of respiratory equipment carrier (AGT) / CBRN helper (CBRN-He)
  • 2 × specialist helpers

The following addition to the additional functions of the specialist helpers:

  • 1 × breathing apparatus wearer (AGT) / CBRN helper (CBRN-He)
