The 1. FC Riegelsberg (full name: the first football club Riegelsberg eV ) is a sports club from Riegelsberg in the Saarland . The first women's soccer team plays in the third-tier Regionalliga Südwest and qualified for the women's DFB Cup in 2014 and 2016 .
history
1. FC Riegelsberg was created on July 1, 1999 through the merger of the clubs FV 08 Riegelsberg and DJK Riegelsberg . The men of FV 08 played in the Saarland Association League from 1979 to 1983 . Before the merger, the FV 08 managed to return to the highest Saarland league, which has been called the Saarland League since 2009 . The greatest success was fifth place in the 2002/03 season. In 2013 the men were relegated to the Association League Southwest. In 2015, the club rose again to the Saarland League .
In 2009 for the first time a women's team was provided, which began in the district league. After two ascents in a row, the Riegelsberg women reached the Saarland Association League in 2012. Two years later the 1st FCR were champions, but were not allowed to advance. The reason for this was the lack of the mandatory second women's and girls' teams. In the Saarland Cup, the team won the final against the regional league team FSV Viktoria Jägersburg 4-1 and qualified for the DFB Cup.
There the Riegelsbergers had to go to the fourth division 1. FFC Bergisch Gladbach in the first round and lost 1: 2. In 2015, the Riegelsbergerinnen made it to the Regionalliga Südwest der Frauen. A year later, the team won the Saarland Cup for the second time with a 2-1 final victory over SV Dirmingen .
