The 713th Infantry Division was a German infantry division of the Army of the German Wehrmacht in World War II in Wehrkreis XIII .

Division history

713th Infantry Division

The 713th Infantry Division was set up as a large unit with the 15th wave of formation in May 1941 in Karlsbad as an occupation division. In September he was assigned to the XVIII. Mountain Corps of the 12th Army and the deployment in the Balkans during the conquest of southern Greece and Crete . It was stationed as an occupation division on Crete. On January 15, 1942, the division on Crete was dissolved and the staff was renamed the 1st Fortress Brigade Crete .

The 1. Fortress Brigade Crete , set up in January 1942, consisted only of the 746 Infantry Regiment with the Landesschützen Battalions 832, 833 and 834. The 440 Infantry Regiment was taken over in September 1942 from the Crete Fortress Division . In November 1942, the brigade staff was transformed into the German Railway Security Staff in Croatia .
