2,2-dichloropropane is a chemical compound from the group of saturated halogenated hydrocarbons .

Extraction and presentation

2,2-dichloropropane can be obtained by reacting phosphorus pentachloride with acetone . It can also be represented by the reaction of propyne with hydrogen chloride .

It is particularly advantageously prepared by addition of hydrogen chloride to isomer mixtures of 1- and 2-chloropropenes; the 2,2-dichloropropane thus formed can be separated off from 1-chloropropenene by distillation .

properties

2,2-dichloropropane is an easily flammable colorless liquid that is practically insoluble in water.

use

2,2-dichloropropane is used as a solvent for pesticides .

safety instructions

The vapors of 2,2-dichloropropane can form an explosive mixture with air ( flash point −5 ° C).
