2000 Years of Christianity is a documentary series on the history of Christianity from 1999, which was created at the turn of the millennium .

content

The story series begins with the emergence of Christianity, how it spread, and how it has asserted itself over the course of 2000 years. The ninth part New Worlds , in which Werner Herzog directed and wrote the book, represented a break here, because in it, to a large extent, the situation and popular piety of today's people, especially the descendants of the native inhabitants of Latin America , are expressed in the form of a Report shown, in which isolated historical reviews are integrated. The last part of the series, Chances and Dangers by Günther Klein and Gero von Boehm, deals with questions about the future that Christianity has to face today.

background

The series was produced by ARD and it-media in collaboration with Tellux-Film Munich . The project was funded by the FilmFernsehFonds Bayern and Mitteldeutsche Medienförderung . The individual episodes were created under different directors. Günther Klein was responsible for the overall design of the series .

Real game scenes as well as computer animations were created and used for the project. In addition, the film was shot on original locations. The production costs of the series amounted to 3.4 million euros.

The series ran for the first time from November 7, 1999 to February 20, 2000 in the first program . The series was released in 2000 on VHS and in 2004 on DVD. The DVD version was released with an additional English and Dutch language version. The series received an FSK label for 12 years.
