The 327th Infantry Division was a major unit of the army of the German Wehrmacht during World War II .

Division history

The 327th Infantry Division was set up in November 1940 as an indigenous division of the 13th wave of deployment in Defense District XVII (Vienna) . It was initially used in occupied France to secure the coast in Brittany . In early 1943 she was relocated to the Eastern Front and fought near Kursk , Kiev and Zhitomir . In July 1943 it was subordinated to Army Group Northern Ukraine, converted into a full division and disbanded in November 1943 after heavy losses. The remnants were incorporated into the 340th Infantry Division .

As a member of the 595 Infantry Regiment, Private Alois Kilian Hetterich was sentenced to forced labor in the Minsk trial . This took place because of the involvement in the murder of Russian civilians between January 1943 and his captivity in February 1943.
