Enzacamen ( 4-methylbenzylidenecamphor , abbreviation : 4-MBC) is a chemical compound that is used in sunscreen because it protects against UV-B radiation and infrared radiation . Enzacamen is a white powder.

According to a study by the Institute for Pharmacology and Toxicology at the University of Zurich , enzacamen accelerates the growth of cancer cells .
Admission
4-MBC is approved as a cosmetic ingredient in Europe by the EU and is tested in Canada by Health Canada . In the USA there has not yet been any testing or approval by the Food and Drug Administration ; in Japan the product is banned.
In the South Sea state of Palau , 4-MBC in sunscreen to protect coral reefs has been banned since January 2020. The ban is based on the results of a study published in 2017 on the pollution of the underwater world at Jellyfish Lake .
