5G Automotive Association

The 5G Automotive Association ( 5GAA ) is a global, cross-industry organization of companies from both the automotive and communications industries. The aim of 5GAA is to develop end-to-end solutions for future transport and mobility services and thus avoid incompatibilities from the start.

history

The 5G Automotive Association was founded in September 2016. AUDI AG , BMW Group and Daimler AG were involved as vehicle manufacturers , Ericsson , Huawei , Intel , and Nokia as suppliers for the infrastructures of telecommunications companies and Qualcomm as manufacturer of firmware .

In 2017 the 5G Automotive Association signed a letter of intent with the European Automotive Telecom Alliance (EATA) about a collaboration.

organization

The 5GAA is a registered association . It has a hierarchical structure.

  • The twelve core members (platinum group), including the founding members (gold group), have the right to nominate management positions and general membership
  • In 2018, more than 80 companies belonged to the 5G Automotive Association.

tasks

The core task of the 5G Automotive Association is to work on standardization that is necessary for the implementation of driverless traffic . It works with standardization bodies such as ETSI , 3GPP and SAE .

The second task of the 5GAA is the public relations work to show the feasibility of the technology through demonstrations. Conferences are also held in this area.
